first week in calgary!

and it's bloody freezing!! well apparently it's not really, some crazy calgarians wander around in nothing more than jeans and a shirt, but after more than an hour walking around outside generally leaves me and ger aching and numb! the coldest it's been since we arrived is only -14 degrees, so i'm really quite worried about next month which is supposed to be about -30 on average! anyway, enough about the temperature. have almost kicked my cold in the butt and have been whittling away my days while ger's at work by getting lost in the city. bought some long-johns in the weekend and am wondering why i didn't on the very first day we arrived! have been out to dinner a couple of times with some of ger's workmates and they all seem really friendly and are our age so we're not lonely :). we have both noticed people in calgary are generally extremely friendly. i went to the supermarket today and the check-out chick had the whole queue in conversation! went to the zoo yesterday which was rad (oh how i love the zoo!) and finally saw a moose! YEAH! :D have put some pics up on the gallery to summarise our first week in calgary :)

so far so good :)

still living in the sheraton, but have looked at a couple of apartments. they were ok but we didn't fall in love with them. it shouldn't be too hard to find a place though.

hope you are all nice n' warm!

lots of love, d xx

6 days in buenos aires!

hola!!

arrived in calgary, canada yesterday and thought i was way overdue for the buenos aires in a nutshell update... so here goes!...

basically, i really like buenos aires. i reckon it has that wellington feel - in that it's a big city (ok, way bigger than wellington) but has a kind of small city feel. i could get around the main part of it on my own with absolutely no hassles. i only felt threatened once - and that was when i walked past a guy with a knife in his hand on the quiet street outside ger's apartment. i just eyeballed him as i walked past and nothing happened. he was most likely harmless, but considering the stories i've heard from ger, and coming from nz where it's illegal to walk around with a big knife in your hand, my heart was beating frantically. i saw so many cool things in the past week and met so many cool people. ger's family and friends all seem to speak english so it was pretty easy and relaxed in that regard :)

anyway... the computer battery is about to die, but i've just uploaded heaps of pics to the gallery and they will describe everything better than i can! ;)

i'll update on canada very soon....

love and miss you all,
